Denim is not a flat substrate.

Unlike jersey, denim presents woven surface texture, significant weight variation, seam ridges near placement areas, and a wide range of finishing treatments that change how heat and pressure are delivered.

Weight and weave

Standard 12–14 oz denim requires more heat dwell time than lightweight jersey. Heavy selvedge or canvas-weight denim may need additional press support.

Surface texture

Twill weave creates a diagonal surface that may affect carrier contact and adhesion uniformity compared with a smooth knit.

Seam and pocket proximity

Back pocket seam ridges, yoke seams, and waistband areas create height differences that must be measured before placement is confirmed.

Wash and treatment

Stone-washed, enzyme-washed, coated, or distressed finishes change the surface and may interact with the transfer adhesive. Confirm the exact finish.
