Buyer perspective
The words sticker and patch are used loosely in sourcing conversations. One request may mean a thin applied graphic; another may mean a separately made badge with a defined outer edge and backing. Before comparing prices or pictures, describe what the customer should see and feel on the finished garment.
What to decide
State whether an exposed patch border, dimensional relief, fabric base, or nearly flush graphic is required. Provide the same artwork at final size and ask for a construction proposal for each option. A digital mockup cannot show surface height or edge behavior.
Identify fabric, placement, seam proximity, and who will apply the component. Review the supplied carrier or backing and trial the actual process on the target garment. Record the method rather than assuming anything sold as iron-on behaves the same way.
Handle and care-test representative decorated garments. Look at edge appearance, hand feel, fine detail, and how the mark moves with the fabric. Keep separate accepted samples and identifiers for the two builds so a reorder cannot silently substitute one for the other.
Options
The same artwork can be translated into a flatter applied graphic or a separate badge. Evaluate both on the target fabric with the same size and placement, then document the construction difference a customer will actually notice.
Compare relief, texture, edge definition, and how the mark moves with the garment during handling.
Record carrier or backing, who applies it, access around seams, and whether additional stitching is proposed.
Inspect representative garments after the agreed care trial and photograph any edge or surface change.
Use separate sample codes and order names for the two builds. An informal term such as sticker should not authorize a construction substitution.
