What do SS6 and SS10 mean in rhinestone sizing?

SS stands for Stone Size. SS6 is approximately 2.0 mm in diameter; SS10 is approximately 2.8 mm. The numbers follow a historical grading system — larger SS numbers mean larger stones. Actual tolerances vary by manufacturer and construction type.

Which stone size is better for detailed artwork?

Smaller stones (SS6 and below) allow finer detail resolution but require more stones per square centimetre, increasing stone count and mapping complexity. The correct size depends on the finished transfer dimensions, the level of approved detail, and the viewing distance.

Can a single transfer use more than one stone size?

Multi-size constructions are possible and are used to create visual hierarchy, separate fill areas from borders, or emphasize specific design elements. Each size mix must be defined in the approved stone map and confirmed in the specification before sampling.

Does stone size affect application settings?

Stone size is one of several variables in the transfer construction. Application instructions are issued for the specific approved transfer — not for a stone size in isolation. Follow and test the instructions supplied for the exact approved construction.
