Buyer perspective
A flat logo file does not explain which areas of a moulded patch should project, recess, or remain level. A relief map turns artwork into a physical proposal the maker can evaluate. It should be reviewed at the intended size so fine features and edge transitions do not disappear into a dramatic digital rendering.
What to decide
Mark primary symbol, lettering, background, border, and any secondary texture as separate zones. State which layers must feel distinct and which are visual color changes only. Ask the maker to confirm achievable depth for the selected material and size.
Flag tight corners, narrow channels, isolated dots, and text close to the outer edge. Inspect a physical proof from several angles and under ordinary light. If the moulded sample merges details, widen or simplify them before approving tooling or repeat production.
Review thickness and edge feel on the actual garment or bag panel, plus the proposed backing. Keep relief drawing, color schedule, sample code, and attachment result together. A face-only approval leaves the receiving item untested.
Specification
A relief map should be checked against a physical patch at final size. It must distinguish dimensions of the outer silhouette from heights and clearances within the raised design.
If a fine feature collapses in the physical sample, revise the map before accepting tooling or repeating the patch.
