Buyer perspective
MOQ is shorthand for minimum order quantity, but the number is incomplete without its unit and scope. A buyer ordering multiple logos may discover that each logo starts a separate production setup. Before accepting or rejecting a quote, ask the maker to label every threshold and the assumptions behind it.
What to decide
Determine whether the minimum is per artwork, physical size, material, backing, colorway, purchase order, or shipping release. Use a line-item table to expose mixed orders. Ask whether overproduction allowances or pack multiples affect the requested quantity.
A development specimen, preproduction approval, and repeat production are different transactions. Confirm what can be sampled, what can be sold, and what quantity starts the proposed run. Do not infer a no-minimum policy from an ability to make a prototype.
If a threshold exceeds demand, ask which specification choices drive setup and whether a design, color, or packing simplification changes the quote. Compare the altered sample with the original requirement before deciding that an alternative is acceptable.
Specification
A number becomes useful only after the supplier states what it counts. Rewrite a vague MOQ into a sentence that names the design, production method, and release unit.
Ask for the corrected written sentence when the denominator is unclear; an assumed pooled quantity can derail an entire assortment plan.
