Buyer perspective
A badge wash test is meaningful only when the badge is attached to the garment that will be sold and the care process reflects that product. Decide the acceptance criteria before testing, then record what happened. One pass does not establish a universal performance guarantee.
What to decide
Field note 01
Record badge code, artwork revision, backing, stitch or attachment method, garment fabric, and placement. Photograph the face, edge, and reverse before exposure. Use more than one specimen if the program has materially different fabrics or attachment routes.
Field note 02
Choose washing, drying, and handling conditions relevant to the garment's own care instructions and expected sale. Record cycle count and actual observations. Avoid treating a test on a different blank as proof for this one.
Field note 03
Compare color, stitch definition, edge, attachment, puckering, and garment surface against the pre-test record. Note whether the sample is wet, freshly dried, or fully conditioned. Keep both passing and failing evidence with the decision.
Sample protocol
A useful test has a known specimen, defined care exposure and comparison points. Record the exact combination rather than turning one successful result into a universal claim.
Photograph badge face, edge, reverse and garment surface with identifiers for artwork, backing and attachment.
Run the care routine relevant to the garment and record cycle count, drying method and any deviations.
Compare edge lift, stitching, color, puckering and fabric condition once the sample is in a consistent state.
Retain failing samples as evidence too. If only the garment fabric deteriorates, the badge-and-garment pairing still needs revision.
