Custom Iron-On Artwork Checklist
Prepare iron-on patch or transfer artwork with final size, edge treatment, fabric context, attachment format, and approval checkpoints.
Buyer perspective
The phrase iron-on describes an intended application, not a complete product specification. A direct transfer and a backed patch need different artwork and edge decisions. State which is requested, then give the supplier enough context to review the actual receiving fabric.
What to decide
Build a brief that can be tested
01Deliver a scale-aware file
Provide editable outlines where possible, final width and height, color references, and a view-only proof. Mark small letters, isolated elements, and narrow gaps that must survive at size. Ask for a feasibility review before simplifying protected details.
02Define the outer edge
For a patch, show the border and cut silhouette; for a transfer, show the complete placement envelope. Identify orientation and any carrier requirements. A mockup that crops away the perimeter cannot approve the finished component.
03Pair it with the garment
State fabric, coating, stretch, placement, and who will apply it. Request a test sample on the actual material. Record the current process instructions for that construction instead of publishing one universal iron setting.
Approval gate
Make the artwork handoff inspectable
An iron-on artwork file should communicate the finished item, not merely the graphic. Before requesting a sample, package the art with size, color, orientation, backing intention, and a garment-placement view so the result can be checked against an explicit brief.
Revision
Label the final artwork and remove superseded versions from the approval packet.
Physical proof
Print at intended size and mark any tiny type or narrow gaps that may need simplification.
Use context
Add the target fabric and measured placement to guide attachment testing.
Approve the applied sample against this packet; a digital graphic alone does not prove an iron-on result.
