Buyer perspective
A button is a functional closure and a visible trim. Its size, attachment, edge, and finish must work with the garment's buttonhole and use pattern. Begin with the actual garment and a button sample rather than approving from a generic trim photograph.

A button is a small component with outsized effects on closure, handling, and visual balance. An unrelated patch or trim photograph cannot approve a button order; use the actual garment and a physical button sample to decide fit.
Geometry
Record diameter, thickness, holes or shank, and how the button passes through the intended opening.
Finish
Compare color and surface treatment against the garment under consistent light.
Attachment
Fasten a sample to the garment and inspect the closure after ordinary handling.
Do not release a bulk button specification until the exact component and garment closure have been checked together.
What to decide
Build a brief that can be tested
01Start with the closure
Measure the buttonhole and fabric stack on the intended garment. Specify diameter, thickness, number of holes or shank requirement, and whether the button carries load or is decorative. A coat front and a shirt cuff have different handling demands.
02Review the visible face
Provide authorized logo artwork and finish direction at actual size. Check engraving or raised detail for legibility. Compare samples under the garment's likely lighting and with the fabric color, not against a white digital background.
03Test attachment and receiving
Sew the sample through the real fabric using the planned thread and machine settings. Open and close it repeatedly; inspect clearance, snagging, and edge wear. Pack buttons by size, finish, and revision to prevent similar variants mixing.
