Character system planning

Alphabet and Number Transfers for Team Programs

Build an alphabet-and-number transfer system around character sizing, line alignment, personalization data, and reorder control.

Buyer perspective

Character programs fail when buyers approve one attractive letter but never test the combinations customers actually order. A usable system needs consistent height, spacing, and baseline across letters and numbers. The pictured letter reference does not establish a matching number range; confirm that separately.

What to decide

Build a brief that can be tested

Focus 1

Define the character set

List required uppercase, lowercase, numerals, punctuation, and special marks. State whether the program needs pre-arranged names or individual characters. Review wide and narrow letters together so one nominal height does not hide uneven visual weight.

Focus 2

Proof real examples

Build sample names and numbers at the longest and shortest planned lengths. Check spelling, centerline, letter spacing, and the available garment panel. Test on the smallest and largest blank sizes instead of scaling from one mockup.

Focus 3

Control personalized orders

Use a locked input format for name, number, font or motif style, color, garment size, and placement. Have the buyer approve the exact character sequence before production. Keep the proof linked to each order line.

Specification

Measure complete names and numbers

Character height alone does not establish whether a personalized line fits the garment.

Longest string
Set the longest planned name or number at physical size and measure the full outside width.
Baseline
Align wide, narrow and rounded characters; note intentional optical adjustments instead of relying on equal gaps.
Garment envelope
Compare the full string against seams and usable panel widths on the smallest planned garment.

Approve representative strings, not only individual letters. Save the layout rule for future personalized orders.
